    Title: Citizens Fireman

Media: Newspaper, paint, ink, media gel, charcoal and chalk.

    Size: 80 H x 60 W x 2 cm

Description: This work was created by hand from Scottish newspapers. There is a slightly glossy look to certain parts of the work depending on the light. Artwork continues around the edges. Signed on right edge and back.

  • About the Work

"Glasgow Grit" is a series dedicated to Glasgow and the wonders it holds. The overall look of the works had to be "gritty". Glasgow has, over the years, been branded stereotypically as being dangerous or dirty. Yet every tourist I've ever met loves the city and its people. Glasgow is a city with history and some of the best art and architecture in the world. Old blackened buildings with little back alleys and wide contemporary pedestrianised areas coexist with success.

I decided to embrace the gritty foreign thoughts and use that in a visual way to showcase just some of the beautiful parts of the city in the series "Glasgow Grit".

The work shown above is a mixed media work featuring one of Glasgow's most loved landmarks, The Finnieston Crane. This work was created by hand from newspaper, paint, ink, media gel, charcoal and chalk.

    Media: Acrylic on canvas

    Size: 60 H x 60 W x 2 cm

Description: This work was created with acrylic paint on canvas. Artwork continues around the edges. Signed on the side and the back.

  • About the Work

"Reality's Surreal" is a depiction of just one moment in my life. A moment I will never forget and one I was, at first, nervous to share. Whilst photographing the city for a day, I was focusing on the Police Box when it changed into an ice cream stall for the summer. Deciding to continue I was happily snapping when this gentleman walked into my peripheral vision. Not wanting to draw unnecessary attention to him, I pretended to fiddle with my camera till he was gone and then continued. It wasn't until i reviewed the photos the next day, that i noticed he had in fact walked into my shot. What was a weird moment became an epic one. I realised what I had captured and knew it would never happen again. I had to show everyone just how surreal reality can be.

Description: This work was created with acrylic paint on canvas. Artwork continues around the edges. Signed on the side and the back.

  • About the Work

"I Am Not A Sausage" is a contemporary depiction of deer in the Highlands of Scotland. It was painted using purple tones inspired by the surrounding heather. Purple is also the colour of Royalty. Fitting for this particular creature. When I saw the look in this beautiful Stag's eyes, he was only saying one thing to me. "Yes I am venison but I am not a sausage".

  • About the Work

"The Elements" were created to force the viewer to take note of and appreciate the individual parts of a motorcycle. The majority of people who view motorbikes do so as a whole. They do not look at the detail or beauty of individual parts. Breaking the bike down into its bare elements and focusing on one part from each was the best way to achieve this.

There are three elements featured in “The Elements” light instillation. Natural, Mechanical and Combination. The Natural Element is based on a section of leather grain from the seat of the bike. Leather being a natural material thats grain cannot be manipulated or altered. The Mechanical Element is based on the front forks. These are precisely engineered metal cylinders, without which the bike wouldn’t function. The Combination Element is based on the handlebar grips of the motorbike. The grips are made of rubber, a natural material, but it has been engineered to retain a specific shape, design and colour. Thus it is a combination of both the Natural and Mechanical Elements.

Distinctions and correlations have also been made with the colour choice and selective use of extruding parts in each of “The Elements”.
